Bongekile Simelane, better known by her stage name Babes Wodumo, was born on March 25, 1994, and is a celebrated South African singer, composer, and dancer in the Gqom genre.

Babes Wodumo gained notoriety after the success of her song “Wololo” in the music industry. She went even farther to increase her notoriety by having it included in the song “Redemption” from the soundtrack for the film Black Panther.

Since her debut, Babes Wodumo has worked with many of the best musicians in South Africa and has also performed on stages alongside renowned international performers.


 

Born and raised in KwaZulu-Natal, Babes Wodumo. She is the daughter of Lamontville Mount Zion Faith Mission bishop Welcome Simelane. She has a known sister even though her mother is not mentioned at all.

Babes Wodumo always did well in her chosen fields as a child, exploring acting, dance, sports, and soccer. She earned the nickname Wodumo as a result of these actions.

Babes Wodumo’s father gave her the name “Babes” because he thought her eyes resembled a member of the band “The Babes.”
