A tearful scene was witnessed at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court as Dr Nandipha Magudumana’s mother was captured weeping while her daughter and husband, Zolile Sekeleni, appeared in court. It was the first time that pictures of Nandipha’s mother had been revealed to the public, and it was clear that the woman was heartbroken as she watched her loved ones chained in the dock. We pray that she finds the strength to endure this difficult time and that she isn’t involved in the wrongdoing.
It is a shame that Dr Nandipha has brought such dishonor to her family. As a highly educated individual, it is difficult to comprehend why she would throw her life away in this manner. Did she not consider the possibility that they would be caught? It is heartening to see that her family is standing together through this difficult time, and we hope they can remain strong.
In the meantime, the National Prosecuting Authority has withdrawn the murder charge against Dr Nandipha’s father, Zolile Cornelius Sekeleni. He now faces charges of defeating the ends of justice, aiding and abetting a prisoner to escape, and fraud. Despite this, he was granted bail after appearing in court on Monday.
It is unfortunate that some people seem to think they are above the law and can get away with criminal behavior. The fact that Nandipha’s father is also facing charges suggests that this may be a case of a family involved in illegal activity.
