He was looking forward to a night of celebration with friends and fans. He had completed his album titled Inzalo Ka Sikabopha and had invited guests to attend the listening session for hisnew body of work at Artisan, KwaMashu in KwaZulu-Natal when he got into a horrific car crash not far from the venue. Amapiano vocalist Sipho Mbonambi, best known as Mfana Kah Gogo, got into an accident with his driver Mavuso Shabalala who is badly injured and fighting for his life in hospital, his DJ Mellokuhle “Mellocue” Nzimade and his two producers from duo Effective Sounds.
THE HORRIFIC ACCIDENT
Mfana Kah Gogo tells ZiMoja that he is okay, but the driver is in a critical but stable condition and needs prayers. “We were on the way to the gig when the accident happened. My DJ was hurt, but he got discharged today. My producers are also okay but the driver needs our prayers, he says. “I got a few scratches, nothing major. The driver dislocated his shoulder and hurt his foot.” The four were driving in a Toyota Hilux when the driver was avoiding a car that failed to yield at a circle. “He lost control and their vehicle overturned several times.” Mfana Kah Gogo asks that everyone put his driver in their prayers. “I believe that he will be okay, with prayers.” His manager Mafutha Sokhela says the event had to be postponed. “We don’t know as yet whether we are postponing or canceling but we will know once everyone has fully recovered. We are glad that everyone is okay, we just pray that all goes well with the drive.”
PUT THEM IN YOUR PRAYERS
Mfana Kah Gogo started the year 2023 on a good note when he received his Grade 12 results showing that he had passed. He had been juggling his blooming Amapiano music life from stage performances and this album was going to be what catapults his career to the next level. “We will still host a listening session as soon as everyone is good. Nothing will stop us,” he says. “I know with blessings also come challenges and we still overcome this one. We just ask for prayers.”
