Lynn Forbes, the mom of late South African rapper Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, popularly known as AKA, broke her silence on the 35-year-olds death at his memorial service held at the Sandton Convention Centre on Friday 17 February.
AKA was shot dead, along with his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, outside of Wish restaurant on Florida Road, Durban on Friday 10 February.
LYNN FORBES BREAKS SILENCE ON AKA’S DEATH AT MEMORIAL
AKA’s mom Lynn Forbes, affectionately known as “Glammy” as the rapper and DJ Zinhle’s daughter Kairo calls her – has broken her silence on her son’s death.
While Lynn has remained mum on social media following the untimely passing of her son, she addressed the Megacy at the memorial service. The Megacy is the term coined for AKA’s fans.
Lynn was joined on stage by her younger son Stefan and his partner Brittany Smith. The beloved “Glammy” explained that from now going forward it will be about the Megacy as their broader family and not just her family.
“Today going forward it will not just be about me and the rest of our family, extended family and friends. It will be about the Megacy as our broader family. I believe that is what Kiernan would have wanted,” she said.
She went on to acknowledge that AKA’s body was taken from them in the most brutal way. The mom of two also explained that it was “cold” and “calculated” the way the Victory Lap hitmaker was killed.
“My beloved family of the Megacy, Kiernan’s body was taken from us, it has been taken from us in the most brutal way and I do understand that just like me and our family, you must be feeling the same anger and incredible pain and being in a state of absolute disbelief,” she continued.
AKA has a seven-year-old daughter – Kairo Forbes with ex-girlfriend DJ Zinhle. He was also formerly engaged to a then-22-year-old Anele “Nelli” Tembe, who plunged to her death from the tenth floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town on 11 April 2021.
Thereafter, AKA began dating rapper Nadia Nakai. As both DJ Zinhle and Nadia mourned AKA, Lynn assured them that they are both her daughters and they are always welcome despite the rapper no longer being around.
“I want to celebrate Zinhle and Nadia. This is not a normal situation, it’s all love over here. I’ve gained three daughters, Britney, Nadia and Zinhle,” she said.
“Forever, both of you, you are always welcome. You will always be my daughters. I don’t care what anyone says on social media about you, they don’t matter. The Megacy matters,” she continued.
