Our son was loved and he gave love in return: AKA’s mom and dad confirm his passing

They were shot and killed as they were walking past a restaurant in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Two men who allegedly approached them from across the road shot rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane. Tony and Lynn Forbes, AKA’s parents, have issued a statement announcing their son’s passing. We confirm that our beloved son passed away tragically and prematurely on February 10, 2023, and we do so with great sadness. The statement continues, “To us, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, most importantly a father to his beloved daughter Kairo.” The statement continues, “We are awaiting further details from the Durban Police.” Among his many affectionate nicknames, he was known as AKA, Supamega, Bhova, and others. The family continues, ” Our son received love and reciprocated it. We ask for your compassion, space, and time to gather as a family to decide on the days ahead during this difficult time. The family requests that people continue to keep them in their prayers and expresses gratitude to everyone for their love and support.

AKA and Tibz were, according to a close friend, as happy as ever just a few hours before the incident. Tibz was the same way AKA is always energetic. Nothing had changed. Police confirm the murders on Friday night, according to Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal police.
