The Drama continues in the Senzo Meyiwa trial

Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa passed away eight years ago but the drama surrounding his death doesn’t stop.

According to reports, he was shot in Vosloorus while with his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo, her sister Zandie Khumalo-Gumede, her sister’s ex-boyfriend Longwe Twala, as well as two of his buddies, Mthokozisi Thwala and Tumelo Madlala, during a failed robbery.

Sifisokuhle Ntuli, Muzikawukhulelwa Sthemba Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Ncube, and Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa are accused of premeditated murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, possessing a gun without a; license, and illegally possessing ammunition. They have pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

The case went to trial this year at the North Gauteng High Court. Up to this point, three people have provided testimonials. As the first forensic expert on the scene, Sergeant Thabo Mosia was joined by Sergeant Patrick Mlungisi Mthethwa, “Mathebula,” and Meyiwa’s companion Madlala.

The court heard that the scene had been tampered with and that Meyiwa was reportedly shot by one of the individuals inside the house either Twala or Khumalo.

During the cross-examination of Madlala, attorneys Zandile Mshololo (representing the five accused) and TT Thobane (representing the one to four accused) bought the story about Twala. Thobane said Meyiwa had an affair with Khumalo’s sister, which infuriated Twala.

However, Madlala insisted it was incorrect, and that a home invader is the one who shot him. He stated that Meyiwa was killed after they had eaten and watched football. He alleged to have witnessed two men, one armed with a revolver, barging in and demanding their smartphones. The sisters battled one man off when Twala shoved one burglar away from the door as he was escaping. He said that during a fight between Meyiwa and another intruder, Meyiwa was shot.

A new docket was made public by attorney Malesela Teffo, who is defending accused one through four, and accuses everyone present in the house of murder. This was before his abrupt withdrawal. The case has been delayed by Judge Tshifiwa Maumela so that a new attorney can become familiar with the proceedings.

Meyiwa’s final moments were documented by SunMan Trevor Kunene at Orlando Stadium on October 25, 2014, the day before he passed away, during the Telkom Knock Out game versus Ajax Cape Town.
