e illnesses that has existed for many years, and when it was first discovered, it caused fear amongst society and also resulted in those who were infected being discriminated against because of the ignorance surrounding the virus. And also because there was no cure or medication for people to take in order to treat it, a huge number of people died. But now that there is more education around the virus and the ignorance surrounding it is dying down, there are still people who are afraid of opening up about their status because of how society will judge them and the stigma surrounding it.

 

 

 
South Africans were left in shock when a loved celebrity opened up about her parents’ status. Pearl Thusi is one of the celebrities in South Africa who does not open up much about her personal life, especially if it will cause controversy. Pearl Thusi revealed that both her parents were HIV positive and that her mom died from it after she was infected by her dad; however, her mom, who was a nurse, died before her dad in 2004.

Her dad passed away in 2020, and he was always getting sick. Her dad was a taxi boss, and she never understood why her mother was him. She said her dad survived meningitis three times and stated that she is only opening up about it now because her parents are no more. If her dad was alive, she would not have said anything because of the stigma surrounding the virus because she would not want people to see her parents as only individuals who have HIV.
