Mutarisi was born in the province of Mashonaland East Wedza at Mount St Mary’s. He grew up in Inyati Mine, where he attended his primary education at Inyati Mine primary school. Mutarisi lost his parents at a young age, and his older siblings became his deputy parents. In an interview with The Herald, Tinashe revealed that after he lost his parents, his senior siblings automatically became his guardians and tried their best to put food on the table. Tinashe’s siblings would do odd jobs moulding bricks so that they could fund his secondary education.
After graduating from his secondary education, Mutarisi worked at a retail shop in Chivhu before migrating to Botswana, where he discovered the opportunities that existed in the local paint industry. After working in Botswana for a few years hunting for greener pastures, Mutarisi moved back to Zimbabwe and founded his Nash Paints company in 2006 at the Chikwanha Shopping Center in Chitungwiza. He started with a few employees,, but through his hard work and determination, he has developed the company to another level, with more than 35 branches across Zimbabwe.
