Somizi under fire after “disrespecting” a South African singer.

As one of the judges on Idols SA, Somizi Mhlongo has got the responsibility to critique, encourage and motivate the contestants. On the past episode of the idols, Somizi told a contestant that they have performed a song better than the original artist.

Somizi urged that Thapelo outdone Loyiso when he performed Loyiso’s song. However, most people responded to Somizi’s statement with shock and disappointment. Some even suggested that Somizi must go and listen to Loyiso’s song. “Don’t disrespect Lloyiso please! I love Thapelo but Loyiso’s version is top tier,” Nolu Kaulela commented.


Another fan highlighted that, the act was not Thapelo’s great performance. “He really tried. There was some effort. And Somizi must not lie unnecessarily. No one touches Loyiso. Loyiso remain unmatched with that song.”

In all the comments in response to Somizi’s sentiments about Loyiso’s song, most of the response claim that the idols judge needs to respect Loyiso. Keabetswe also warned about Somizi’s comments saying, Somizi better than the original? “If you don’t know the song just keep quiet. What Loyiso did on that song needs respect.”
