SOUTH AFRICAN PROMINENT PEOPLE WHO DIED FROM THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
Each of these courageous individuals will be forever honored for the work they did in their chosen industries. They were defeated by Covid-19, however.
FIRST, SHONA FERGUSON
On July 30, 2021, Aaron Arthur Ferguson, better known by his stage name Shona Ferguson, passed away from complications related to the influenza virus COVID-19. He was survived by his beautiful wife Connie Ferguson and his sweet daughter Alicia Angel Ferguson. A big void was created by Shona’s death, and it will never be filled. Without a doubt, the multi-talented performer and producer has made significant contributions to the Mzansi entertainment scene. As long as his legacy lives on in his creations, he will never be forgotten.
LESEGO SEMENYA, NO. 2
Known by his stage name, Les Da Chef, Lesego Semenya added spice to the streets of Mzansi. The 39-year-old cook passed away in July 2021, just one week after testing positive for COVID-19. Lesego claimed he had “seen the worst” and was on the mend just days before he passed away.
SINDISIWE VAN ZYL, M.D.
South African doctor, radio host, journalist, health advocate, and academic Sindisiwe van Zyl was born in Zimbabwe. Even with all her intelligence, she couldn’t stop the coronavirus. On April 10, 2021, Sindi tragically lost her battle with the coronavirus. Her death devastated her many admirers. After collecting multiple prestigious honors for her contributions to medicine, Sindi left enormous shoes to fill.
Fourthly, TSEPO TSHOLA
On July 15th, 2021, at the age of 68, singer and lyricist Tsepo Tshola passed away from coronavirus complications. A lot of people were moved by his singing, therefore he earned the nickname “The Village Pope” from fans and famous people alike. Mzansi was deeply affected by the passing of the hitmaker. His legacy will go on in perpetuity; he was a true icon and legend.
No. 5: DJ WANDI NZIMANDE
The prominent streetwear and lifestyle company Loxion Kulca lost its co-founder, Wandi Nzimande, to the coronavirus on January 13, 2021.
His selfless acts and infectious charisma will live on in legend. Wandi will be remembered for the countless lives he changed with his kindness.
