Siphelele Mashwama, the daughter of a Swaziland bureau worker, stood out as the best of the bunch and became the king’s fifteenth lady of the hour at the ripe old age of 19.

Lord Mswati is well-known for organizing the annual stick ceremony, which takes place in September or October and to which he always brings a young woman.

Thousands of young, childless women from all over Africa travel to Ludzidzini for the eight-day celebration, when their virginity is officially verified.

While 63% of his 1.3 million subjects in the monarchy formerly known as Swaziland are poor, Lord Mswati has more than 25 children and a reputation for extravagant spending.
