RIP Busi: Mzansi has lost a great talent

Mzansi has lost yet another talented person. Actress Busi Lurayi has sadly passed away. Lurayi has appeared in Sitcoms such City Sesla and How to Ruin Christmas – a Netflix original. According to the statement, died in her house on Sunday. The reason for her death is still unknown. Lurayi, who’s a SAFTA winner, appeared in numerous films such as Sokhulu & Partners and Ses’Top La. Entertainment Commentator, Phil Mphela has also confirmed Busi’s passing.

The actress started out acting when she scooped a role in 2013 during a musical remake of Sarafina. Like any popular actress today, her debut came after she featured as Phumzile on the sitcom City Ses’la from 2005 to 2006. The series was later aired again in 2010. The exceptionally talented actress has been making headlines for both positive and not so good reasons. In 2020 Busi Lurayi made headlines when she was sentenced to house arrest, community service and a R48 000 fine for theft or two years’ imprisonment. The sentence was suspended for five years by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court. Her sentence included a payment of R20 000 to Mziwoxolo Qwelane in installments of R1 000 into his FNB account before December 5, and before the 5th every month consecutively until she has paid in full. The two were former lovers.
