The parents of the 21 teenagers who died at Enyobeni tavern are still puzzled about how their children died and they are looking for answers.

Most of the victims who died in the tavern were as young as 17-years-old. Seventeen teenagers died inside the tavern, while the other four died at the hospital, the 21 deceased includes 13 boys and 8 girls.

Many of the victims are thought to have been pupils celebrating the end of their high school exams.

Autopsies are being conducted to see if the deaths could be kinked to poisoning. The police have ruled out a stampede as the cause of the deaths.

The fatalities bore no visible signs of injury, sparking initial speculation among local officials and politicians that this was a case of under age drinking that went wrong.

“But the suspicion is that it is something either they ingested through drinks, food or something they inhaled”. Unathi Binqose from government safety said.

 

Community members started pointing fingers at the police claiming that if the police had been vigilant in the area, then such tragedy could have been avoided from happening.

Meanwhile, the entertainment manager at the tavern, Promise Matunise is laying the blame on the teens.

According to Eye Witness News source, the manager said the teens were not allowed inside the tavern, but they forced their way in.

“Although they let some of those who appeared to be slightly older in, the youngsters, especially those who are said to be 13, are the ones who forced their way in and pushed the bouncers, I think that is how they got in”. The tavern entertainment manager said.

The 21 families are preparing to bury their children, but they are still demanding answers in order to find closure.
