Click on the link below for the video in which the Minister of Police Mr Bheki Cele broke down in tears outside a morgue in front of residents after he had viewed the bodies of the children who were killed at a tavern in the Eastern Cape on Sunday morning .
In the video above , the Minister became so emotional and even failed to finish what he was saying as he was in tears .This also made the families who had gathered at the morgue to also break down in tears .
Who should be blamed for the tragedy ?
Although it is hard to accept what happened, there is a need for police to determine what caused the deaths of the young people. This determination will help with avoiding a similar event from repeating itself in the near future.
There are many factors that can be pointed at as having contributed towards the tragedy . To start with , the owner of the tavern and the organisers should be held accountable for allowing children below the age of 18 to spend a night inside the tavern .
Parents and guardians should not be left out of this situation. How could parents and guardians sleep in their own houses well aware that a minor was not in the house? The parents and guardians should have done better by restricting the minors from attending such places .
The government of South Africa is also to blame for the tragedy . This is because of its decision not to restrict gatherings . The Covid-19 pandemic may not be as severe as it was in 2020 , but Covid-19 regulations should have been keep in place. The restrictions not only limited the spread of Covid-19, but helped avoid similar incidences from taking place
