How Amapiano Balcony Mix propelled Major League DJzBefore the pandemic hit South Ah and prohibited socialization and public gatherings, Major League DJz were the organizers of one of the hotly contested outdoor events called
Major League Gardens. But when the pandemic hit, the twins needed to embrace the new normal of virtual parties and online mixes. Therefore, they launched
Amapiano Balcony Mix in January 2020.
The Amapiano Balcony Mix was originally the twins playing a hour+ set of amapiano hits. However, the mixes arguably picked up following a tragedy that befell the twins. In December 2020, news of
the two being involved in a car accident that almost took their lives was made public. While Bandile healed faster than Banele, the latter would have a leg injury which would inhibit him from taking behind the decks. As a result they invited guest producer-DJs to play with Bandile. This would be the beginning of the success of the mixes as they hit the
million view mark with DNB Gogo and subsequently with Kabza De Small’s videos. Thereafter, it is safe to say, the rest is history!
Major League coin “Piano to the world”
Their first release under amapiano was Ase Trap Ke Pina Tsa Ko Kasi in 2019. An EP which would introduce now internationally recognised musician Focalistic into the mainstream. They followed that release with three amapiano joint albums in 2020. Namely
Amapiano Effect with Tyler I.C.U, and arguably the albums that cemented their names as Amapiano influencers
Pianochella and What’s The Levol? Both albums are a collaboration with Siyathandana’s Abidoza. By 2021, the world was slowly opening up and Major League DJz were being booked internationally. Inspired by how Amapiano was transcending from a South African sound, to an internationally recognised sound from South Africa. The twins coined the term “Piano to the world!” A term celebrating not only their personal international acclaim, but the international acclaim of other Amapiano artists who were getting booked internationally. Hence it is no surprise that not only the
Amapiano Balcony Mix is now international, but even the DJs are too.
Major League rubs shoulders with WizKid, Burna Boy and Naomi CampbellIn 2022, Major League have spent more time outside of South Africa than they have in the country. Whether it is because they are working on music with internationally recognised artists like Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage, or hosting sets of
Amapiano Balcony Mix in countries like England, Tanzania, and the US. Therefore, it was no surprise when it was revealed that they have been
nominated for a BET award this year. But it seems that is not all. Currently, the twins are in Paris, France. They are there during Paris Fashion Week, and that has allowed them to rub shoulders with the likes of Naomi Campbell, WizKid and Burna Boy. A fact which has earned the DJs kudos on social media as footage of their night together have been shared
