Somizi’s daughter Bahumi seems very conflicted with regards to the issue of ancestors. The reality star a few episodes back she requested her parents so that she changes her surname to her dad’s side. Little did she know that in order to successfully do that, there are a few ceremonies that should be conducted in order to appease the ancestors.
She wanted to change her surname, and her wish was granted, the next step is to introduce her to her father’s side of the ancestors, especially her grandmother since they where very close. But Bahumi is not very fond of that idea. However Bahumi’s beliefs should be respected. Africans should stop doing things they do not believe in. Afterall things will only work out if you believe in them.
As conflicting as she may be, in one of the episodes we saw Bahumi at her grandmother’s graveyard. For someone who does not believe in Ancestors its confusing that why would one fight for their surname in the first place.
Whether or not you believe in Ancestors, they have a huge role to play in your life. Bahumi needs to understand that with age comes wisdom and better understanding. So even with her own beliefs she shouldn’t disregard her father about what he is trying to advice her on.
I feel like Bahumi will understand at a later stage on how tradition works, as much as she has her own beliefs she’s entitled to them but sometimes its better to consider listening to his father coz he knows the benefits of keeping your tradition practices. However if she indeed wants to change her surname to her ancestors surname she might have to put all her differences aside and create a ceremony for her ancestors. Which she will then live her own peaceful life afterwards.
