Duduzile “Lady Du” Ngwenya says her father’s public insults have left her distraught and bewildered. Lady Du’s father, DJ Choc, lambasted the amapiano singer for allegedly claiming she grew up in poverty in a viral video uploaded on social media, saying he had provided her with a great upbringing. “I’m not sure what Lady Du means when she says she grew up poor.” I put in long hours and did everything I could for her. She then went about h*eing and eating money with all of these men, and she continues to do so.

“What’s she up to now?” She did not grow up in poverty; she had all of her needs met. Because of me, she is who she is. You think of me as a jerk today, but she may brag about how poor she was growing up,” he remarked. Lady Du told TshisaLIVE that she did not want to be a part of what had been reported about her because her post had been taken out of context, and her father had learned of a misunderstanding.

“In the year 2021, I was depressed. I had lost all I owned. I was away from home, and I didn’t want to worry him with my worries. It was a motivating message. It had nothing to do with the fact that I was poor as a child. Someone misinterpreted my post and told my father that I mentioned I didn’t have this or that [as a kid]. I’ve never claimed to be impoverished and that I can rely on God. My father does not use social media, but I believe someone noticed my message and went to ask him about it.”

The Umsebenzi Wethu singer claimed she had never seen the video before, but that she had attempted to contact her father after seeing her name trend. She stated that she intended to discuss the situation with the rest of her family’s elders. “I haven’t seen the video yet.” He emailed it to my brother, threatening him, and I remained silent, declaring that I would not listen to him.
“I attempted to communicate with him. I sent a message to him. He’s in pain, and I’d like to get right to the point and figure out what’s wrong. If someone is damaged to that amount, I need to intervene, not alone, but with elders, so we can figure out why and how he got to that point.”

Lady Du sobbed as she spoke about her father, saying she’d always had a close relationship with him, but that people were always attempting to tear it up, and this occurrence was just another example. “My father and I have always shared a tight bond. He is my hero. With the industry and how we are, there will always be individuals in the middle who want to see us fall apart since we’ve always had a close link. That’s why I believe it’s hitting him more emotionally.”
