“This season, everyone will get to witness a whole new MaZulu whose emotional state is teetering on the edge. Her mind is solely focused on rebellion,” says Leleti Khumalo about her character’s change and transformation in season 5.
Tired of everyone around her, whether they’re alive or dead, controlling everything she does, the once-patient MaZulu has had enough and finally snaps. After being chastised by the matriarch of the Bhengu family
MaNdlovu (Thembi Mtshali) for ruining her late hubby Ngcolosi’s (Tony Kgoroge) ritual, MaZulu retaliates by destroying his grave.
MaZulu, out of utter rage and fury, completely desecrates Ngcolosi’s grave. After years of feeling unaccomplished and under his clasp, she is finally done being the meek and obedient wife.
All she’s ever done when Ngcolosi was alive was take orders from him and she refuses to let him order her around even after he’s dead.
And that’s not where she’s stopping. MaZulu sees a business opportunity when she learns that her Shongololo Oil CEO son Zithulele (Raphael Griffiths) recently discovered natural gas that can be used to take down her company Maluju Oil.
And even though Zithulele and his half-brother Nkululeko (Kay Sibiya), who works for Maluju Oil, have a long-standing feud, MaZulu approaches them with a business idea that leaves the pair stunned.
