Noxolo Grootboom a former isixhosa newsreader on SABC was honoured with Doctorate qualifications by Nelson Mandela University.

 
Noxolo Grootboom (61) received Doctor of Philosophy qualifications for her job as a journalist, news, publishing and implementing South African languages. This legendary newsreader stopped reading news in March 2021, she received Doctor Of Letters qualifications at an event that was hosted online by Rhodes University.

Deidre Uren who’s one of the officials at SABC has congratulated Noxolo mentioning that the role she played is a record breaking. She has been an inspiration to employees and for lifting up journalism to the top level.

‘This is one of her well done job that we are celebrating, presenting news in Isixhosa language on SABC 1. In the 37 years that she has worked for SABC, Grootboom is well known for her dedication towards her work and also for developing Isixhosa language to being acceptable in news reading.
