In most cases, such things occur behind closed, whereby someone can remove herself from the family and what it stands for. This is seen as a bold decision that cannot be taken overnight, there has to be a valid reason behind disowning your family, including your last name. Now, the South African poet Ntsiki Mazwai has surprised numerous people by choosing to cut off her Mazwai family. She took to her official social media to make this massive announcement and this left her followers with questions. As they wanted to know the reason behind taking such a drastic decision.

According to Ntsiki, all of this was done for the sake of her mental health. As she couldn’t take the alleged toxicity and challenges that come with bearing her surname. The Uwrongo hitmaker stated that she’s at peace with her decision and no one can talk her out of it. Ntsiki is one of the daughters of the former journalist and anti-apartheid activist Thami Mazwai. Also, she has award-winning siblings namely Thandiswa and Nomsa Mazwai. The trio has been seen performing together in the past as sisters who love music. “Guys, for my mental health I’ve decided to remove myself from the Mazwais. Please respect my decision. It makes me happy and brings me peace,” said Ntsiki on her official Twitter account.

The whole conversation began when the singer decided to introduce her new boy, political analyst Botsang Moiloa on Twitter and that’s when she stated that she will be going through a surname change soon. As it seems like the couple were looking to get hitched and start their life together. “Life is beautifully unpredictable. Change of surname loading,” wrote Ntsiki on her Twitter account.
