South African actor and media personality Dingaan Mokebe Khumalo has been the topic of discussion following the release of his first Amapiano single. Yes, you read that right, he makes music now. Mr Khumalo is know by most of us by his stage name James Motsamai whose character her portrays on SABC 2 soap opera Muvhango. He recently debuted a new single under the local Amapiano house genre.

Some also know Dingaan for being a social commentator, and now you can add musician to the list of things you know about him. The new music announcement came in November of 2021 when he told his followers that he would soon release his first track after deciding to venture into the Amapiano genre. In true showman style, he teased his followers with the cover of the new Amapiano track. The actor’s first single is titled ‘Gabadiya’, which South Africa seemed to be eagerly anticipating. As soon as the song aired, people went to listen to it and some said it was an underwhelming track. This type of reception is probably not what the ‘James Motsamai’ actor anticipated. The song has generally been ridiculed by Mzansi on social media and has not taken off.

Many social media users described the song as not good quality music in comparison with other artists in the same genre. Then some went on to suggest that perhaps Dingaan may be suffering from a midlife crisis. The internet is generally a mean place, and as usual it was not short on opinions of his song. But since its just a first song for him, the hope is that he will improve and give us more and better music.
