It has not been even five years since the AmaPiano genre has hit South Africa but it took over Mzansi and overcame many music genres that exist. The Yanos created many stars and gave South Africans the bigger stage to entertain and succeed. Last night, the South African AmaPiano Awards launched its very first instalment and was aired on the home of entertainment, SABC 1.
This night was eventful and honoured many Amapiano performers like the late Mpura and Killer Kau, Kamo Mphela, Lady Du and many other AmaPiano artists.
This night was very eventful, hosted by Robot. Boii, Moshe Ndiki and Zola Ayabulela Mhlongo. One of the artists whose night was eventful is the daughter of the Kwaito legend, musician and producer, Arthur Mafokate.
Owami Mafokate, known as DJ Owami, had the honour to be nominated on the category of The Best AmaPiano Female DJ Act for this current year.
She was nominated together with DBN Gogo, Lamiez, Zandimaz and T x C. She was crowned and awarded as the Best AmaPiano Female Dj Act.
These news were amazing for her as she attained her first award that celebrates her DJ act. Right when she went forward to collect her award, her father rushed to go on stage to give her a kiss, symbolising how proud he was of her. He also went to social media to send his gratitude to people who voted for his daughter and to Owami Mafokate for her award.
This was amazing news for the Mafokates. Owami seems to be following his father’s footsteps in making it to the music and entertainment industry.
