Former The Queen actor Loyiso MacDonald has been served with divorce papers by his estranged wife, Mathunzi, in an effort to end their nine-year civil marriage.
The 31-year-old freelance creative approached the Johannesburg High Court last week, claiming that her marriage to the actor, who is best known for playing Kagiso Khoza on the popular Mzansi Magic telenovela, had broken down to the extent that they no longer live together.
The court application reads:
The plaintiff (Mathunzi Simphiwe MacDonald) believes there is no reasonable prospect of resuming a normal marital relationship with the defendant (Loyiso MacDonald)… The parties’ mutual affection and regard for one another has faded.
The paperwork also discloses that their marriage, which is a community of property union, resulted in no children, and that the pair has lived in separate residences since February 2017.
“The plaintiff finds it irreconcilable to continue the relationship since the defendant has committed adultery; there is no meaningful communication between the parties.”
The papers also declare that no joint estate will be divided and that each party will keep the property in their possession.
“The defendant is solely responsible for the motor vehicle with the description 2009 Audi A5 Quattro now in his possession, and each party is responsible for their own legal costs.”
Mathunzi’s native town of Witbank, Mpumalanga, hosted the couple’s traditional wedding. In 2012, close family members and celebrities attended the glittering occasion.
Mathunzi describes herself as a writer and creative person with a personal blog, as well as interests in photography and poetry.
Before marrying in September 2012, the pair dated for six years. In May, the 35-year-old, also known as “Segaqagaqa,” quit The Queen to pursue other projects off-screen.
The relationship between Loyiso MacDonald and Zandile Msutwana is said to have begun when the two acted as lovers on Zabalaza several years ago. They appeared to have taken their relationship off set and were head over heels in love.
