Unfortunately, Rhythm City was cancelled and aired its very last episode on Friday, 16 July, after 13 solid years. In a statement, Marlon Davids, e.tv managing director, said the show was axed as “part of a business strategy”.
The good news is that the telenovela will be replaced by a new show that will feature some of South Africa’s most treasured A-Listers and award-winning actors with a generous dash of new and raw talent – HOUSE OF ZWIDE.
House of Zwide will stand in as a replacement for the long- running daily drama as part of the free-to air channel’s business strategy.
House of Zwide will premiere on Monday, 19 July. It takes us through the journey of “fashionable Johannesburg family who brings high drama and ruthless ambition as they rise in the cut-throat fashion industry.”
The new show will be featuring the likes of Vusi Kunene as Funani Zwide, Winnie Ntshaba as Faith Zwide, Motlatsi Mafatshe as uncle Molefe, Jefferey Sekele as Isaac, and the flamboyant Khaya Dladla as Lazarus.
“It’s a timely aspirational tale with many twists and turns that we believe will keep viewers glued to their television screens,” said Anant Singh, VideoVision Entertainment chief executive.
“We’re excited to be partnering with Bomb Productions on this production, which also marks our second series with e.tv,” he added.
As sad as it is to know we won’t be seeing the familia faces of the Rhythm City cast anymore, it’s also exciting that a new cut-throat show will soon be coming to our screens.
