Andy Maqondwana dumps 947 for Kaya

Andy Maqondwana is known by her fans as a larger than life radio character.

That is because she always oozes a cute laugh on radio.

Andy Maqondwana has now bad farewell to 947 and she is preparng for another radio journey at Kaya FM.

Maqondwana, who is known by her listeners for her big personality and infectious laugh, will host a brand new afternoon show, Reloaded with Andy, on Saturdays from 3pm to 6pm.

Her first show will air on July 3 and will feature a variety of old and new music and fun topical conversations to keep listeners entertained.

“I started my radio journey as a presenter on the Stellenboschbased station MFM 92.6 while studying for a BSC Honours in psychology at Stellenbosch University,” she said.

“I moved to KFM 94.5 in 2015, as an overnight presenter, late nights, and then the Sunday weekend breakfast show.”

Starting a career in the radio industry was not an easy one for 29-year-old Maqondwana, who grew up in East London.

Coming from a small city, Johannesburg was a bit challenging for her to manoeuvre as she had to use public transport.

“When I started working at KFM 94.5, I would have to take a two-hour train to get to work, and sleep on a couch at the office as I waited for my 1am show to start.

“Looking back, it always reminds me to stay hungry for the craft and that I have earned my keep in the industry, which is always reassuring when in selfdoubt.”

She is proudly a small-town girl, with a big personality, and if her show is anything to go by, she’s rocking the big city.
