Desperate times calls for desperate measures. When Mona Monyane’s parents who were activists were in exile in Zimbabwe, there’s no way they could have came back to South Africa for the birth of their daughter, she just had to be born there. When many found out she was born in Zimbabwe they started calling her Lekwerekwere, a foreigner in her own country.

Mona Monyane was married to a Soweto born actor, Khulu Skenjana and they parted ways after 4 years of marriage, a separation that Mona announced to her fans.

She featured on Muvhango as Dr Nthabeleng, James Motsamai’s girlfriend few years back. It was also not easy for her to get a south African smart card, it took time, the reason being that she was born in Zimbabwe. The fact that people say Mona Monyane is a Zimbabwean leaves others in confusion of her identity.

She is a south African child born to South African parents. The only thing that links her to Zimbabwe is the fact that she was born there because her parents who were fighting for the freedom that we embrace were exiled there.
