Self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary will breathe a sigh of relief following a decision taken by Malawi’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Steven Kayuni to withdraw a criminal review against them.
According to reports from Malawi, last week Kayuni penned a letter to the High court in Lilongwe to formally withdraw the unconditional release of the couple after they were arrested upon their arrival in their native country after skipping South Africa.
The letter which was seen by Nyasa Times, stated that the state applied for withdrawal of the review after it was overtaken by the lodging of a formal extradition request by South Africa which the minister of Home Office in Malawi has signed.

According to Kayuni, the State will now be litigating for the formal extradition of the couple in High Court. The Bushiris are facing charges of theft, fraud and money laundering in the tune of R102 million pyramid scheme.
Meanwhile, Bushiri’s finacial manager Willar Mudolo was denied bail in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on the basis that he attempted to escape the country on more than five occasions.
