Prominent house music DJ’s DJ Bongz and DJ Sox have decided to pull out from the awards show, withdrawing their names from the list of nominees. They were both nominated under the best club DJ category but decided that they will not be taking part.
DJ Bongz, real name Bongani Dlamini said he was grateful for his fans’ support especially those who voted but did not give out any further details as to how he got to his decision. His statement reads, “I am honoured and grateful for your nomination for the Best Club DJ category at the KZN Entertainment Award. However, I hereby officially withdraw this nomination.
“Thank you to everyone who voted for DJ Bongz because you listen to my music and genuinely thought it is worthy of award recognition. Please be assured that I did not reach this decision lightly and that I don’t want to nullify or minimize your opinion,” he announced.
On the other hand, DJ Sox, whose real name is Mbusi Sokhela revealed why he had to withdraw from the awards. He said they were informed about their nominations via social media and not personally. He gave kudos to the organizers of the awards saying the future of the creative industry is blossoming, but he believes the whole thing is not transparent.
“It gives me great joy and hope for the future of the creative industry and upcoming creatives in KZN when initiatives like this are implemented, however
due to the poor execution and the non-transparent process of this years’ awards, including the fact that we were alerted on social media of the nominations with no consent or contact from the association or organisers,” reads a part of his statement.
The Kwa-Zulu Natal Entertainment Awards will be held on the 15th of December 2020 at the Durban International Convention Centre, where the province’s top achievers will be awarded achievement trophies and cash prizes. All category winners will reportedly walk away with R100 000 and the overall winner will take home R500 000.
