The country is still amazed by the fact that shudufhadzo, who is the raining miss South Africa has no hair and won the pageant without any of it. This is something that has never happened before in the entire history of the context. The image that was seen when people were thinking not miss South Africa has been one of a well groomed woman with good hair, Shudufhadzo came and changed that narrative.
Ever since she won the contest, no one has ever seen her with hair on her head. She makes sure she is always with no hair whatsoever. People even asked themselves if she is even able to grow any hair. When she won the peagent, some thought that she looked like a cancer survivor when they saw her bald head. Most South Africans do not really know it, but she has not always been bald intact, just like everybody else, she spent her whole life with a full set of hair until now.
She has always thought that she couldn’t make it to the South African stage for the miss contestant. The people who often won this competition were usually white or light skinned women with nice her. When the former miss South Africa Zozibini Ntunzi won, she redefined the whole image. Shudufhadzo, being the dark skinned goddess she is then realized that it was very possible to win the contest. She cut her hair off as a sign to show that beauty is different.
The world has only had a single shade and definition not beauty, women and to be skinny with flat stomachs and light skinned to be beautiful. Black women had it rough as their hair was never considered a sign of beauty. This is why many of the black women did not wear their natural hair admit was but always had wigs on or relaxed it so it fits in with the image of beauty that was set by society.
Shudufhadzo was naturally fitting in this section since she has had a skinny body from birth but was disadvantaged by her hair and skin tone according to social standards. So cutting of her hair, made the world aware that you can be beautiful no matter how you look on the head and that hair type or skin tone doesn’t define one’s beauty. Her baldness has defined her boldness, she has lit many young minds and refined societal constructs.
Her head represents a redefinition of beauty, an accepting ritual of the self and a true self defined source of beauty. Black people can now be without hair and not feel so discriminated by their peers becausebeat all the women with nice hair to make it to the top. At the end of the day it is the pure essence of a woman that truly defines what it is to be beautiful and enough. People cannot take away a definition of beauty that you made yourself.
What is your take on the matter? Do you think it is commendable for miss South Africa to keep staying bald?
