Skeem Saam first premiered on SABC1 back in 2011 and it is one of the most watched soapies in South Africa and it apparently has more than 8 million viewers.

According to the Broadcast Research Council of South Africa, Skeem Saam is the third most watched soapie in South Africa, it comes right after Uzalo and Generations The Legacy.

Despite having an extensive base on viewership, Skeem Saam is one of the low budget soapie productions. Skeem Saam cast is mainly dominated by experts actors, with extensive experience in the film industry, such actors are, Lydia Mokgokoloshi who plays the character of Koko Mantsha, but their monthly salaries do not show that.

Multi award-winning actress, Lydia Mokgokoloshi aka Koko Mantsha is one of the highest-paid actors on Skeem Saam. The popular veteran actress, has more than 30 years experience in the field industry and has featured in soapies such as, Bophelo ke Semphekgo.

Despite being relieved from full-time acting, Koko Mantsha takes home a salary of about R35,000 per month. Veteran actors such as Harriet Manamela aka Meikie, Africa Tsoai aka John Maputla and Dieketseng Mnisi aka MaNtuli are said to be taking home a salary of about R30,000 to R35,000 per month.

It’s believed that Skeem Saam’s actors salaries, are low as compared to other soapies.
