ezile Makhanya is a South African actor and television presenter best known as an SABC1 continuity presenter, from 2006-2008.
Fezile was born and raised in a small location near Richards Bay called Esikhawini, now known as Esikhaleni in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
Fezile is known to friends as Fezile, Gcwabaza. As a young boy he fell in love with sports, in particular rugby and athletics. As a result he received a scholarship at one of Durban’s most prestigious schools, Glenwood High School.
Holding athletics and rugby records for over a decade, he moved to Johannesburg for better exposure. Coming from an entrepreneurial family, his parents encouraged him to look beyond sports and study a business degree, while working on a part time basis.
Fezile then explored the entertainment industry and started off by appearing in an advert for Ricoffy. He then became a Channel O VJ.
He has acted in numerous television shows including the e.tv soapie Backstage, the crime series Jozi Streets, cameo roles on SABC1’s Generations and Gaz’lam, and the leading role of Sbu on the SABC1 soccer drama series Zone 14.
In 2006 he was chosen as an SABC1 brand ambassador after a nationwide search to find six new presenters. He competed in the “Multilingual” category, and began working as a continuity presenter on 1 July, 2006.
His contract was terminated in 2008, after SABC1 decided to discontinue the use of continuity announcers.
Fezile is a Bachelor of Commerce graduate at UNISA, specializing in Financial Risk Management, and has also completed his registered persons exam in Equities. He also has a passion for financial markets.
Beginning on 10 June 2008, he co-hosted (with Lebo Motsoeli and Eugene Khoza) the SABC1 magazine show Countdown 2010, which aimed to keep South Africans informed and involved in the preparation for the largest sports event ever held on the African continent – the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
He was the host of the e.tv sports game show No Sweat Golden Goal, from June to September, 2009.
He played the role of Ben in the e.tv drama series eKasi: Our Stories, in the episode entitled “Sugar Mommy” (Season 2, Episode 4), in 2010.
In 2011 he hosted the second season of the ONE Gospel reality competition Shine and he guest starred in an episode of the Mzansi Magic telenovela iNkaba in 2012.
Fezile had a starring role as Sandile in the third season of the Mzansi Magic drama series Rockville in 2015. He returned for a guest appearance in Season 4 the following year.
In 2016 he replaced Sdumo Mtshali in the starring role of Kuti Daniels for the third season of the SABC1 drama series Tempy Pushas.
In 2017 he was the co-host – with Kope Makgae – of the SABC2 game show Fundis.
As a speaker, Fezile has Mc’d numerous events in government (Department of Police, Education, Sports, Health and Tourism) in the private sector he has MC’d for Coca Cola, Shield, MTN, FNB, Multichoice, Supersport, ETV, SABC, Mc Donald’s, KFC, SAB, Vodacom and Cell-C.
