Senzo Meyiwa’s family wants access to his daughter with Kelly KhumaloSenzo Meyiwa’s family says it has tried and failed to gain access to the late former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper’s daughter, Thingo Khumalo, whom he shared with singer Kelly Khumalo.According to ZiMoja, the family has given up hope that it will ever see Thingo again.
Thingo was born in March 2014, just seven months before her father would be shot and killed in cold blood at her mother’s family home in Vosloorus, Gauteng.A family recently told the publication that they only saw the 10-year-old girl in 2014 when she was a few months old.“Family members were still hurt at the time. It’s understandable that she could not bring Thingo to Senzo’s funeral because the whole country blamed his death on her,” said the relative.
The source continued: “It has been ten years now, and Senzo’s mother Ntombi, and his sister Zama, are desperate to have a relationship with the girl.“All they want is to spend time with Thingo so that she knows her siblings, cousins, aunts, and uncles. It is unfair for the child to only hear about the Meyiwa family in the media and not spend time with them.”During his interview with eNCA in August last year, Senzo’s brother, Sifiso Meyiwa, opened up about their family’s alleged non-existent relationship with the murdered Bafana Bafana goalkeeper’s daughter.
“We saw her for the first time when Senzo Meyiwa still alive. Kelly’s mother and Senzo had brought her home. We would love to see her and have a relationship with her,” Sifiso said.He explained that after Senzo’s death, their sister, Nokuthula, tried calling Kelly, but she would allegedly not pick up.
“We also tried contacting them [the Khumalos] with my mother’s older sister but they did want to hear it,” Sifiso added.
The day Senzo was shot and killed, Kelly; her sister, Zandile; Zandile’s boyfriend, Longwe Twala; the singers’ mother, Ntombi Khumalo; and two of Meyiwa’s friends, Mthokozisi Thwala and Tumelo Madlala; as well as Thingo and Kelly son Christain, were all in the house with him.
During the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial in January, Kelly was implicated as the person who allegedly ordered the killing. The information is contained in lead investigator Brigadier Bongani Gininda’s affidavit which was read at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.
