Imbewu’s ‘Phunyuka’ Mduduzi Nombela Negotiates Own Lobola In Real Life
Veteran actor Mduduzi Nombela, who is best known for playing Phunyuka on ‘Imbewu: The Seed,’ recently paid lobola for his long-term girlfriend.
The actor, who is so smitten with his love, went against traditional protocols and was involved in his own lobola negotiations.
Usually, the lobola negotiations are conducted by the groom’s uncles. However, Mdudzu Nombela went against tradition and was involved in the negotiations as he wanted everything to go off perfectly with no room for mistakes.
A source who was privy to the lobola negotiations told local publication Daily Sun,“Normally, during the negotiations, the groom should not get involved, but Mduduzi participated because he didn’t want to leave room for any mistake. It is not that he didn’t trust his uncles, he wanted to make sure his in-laws were satisfied, and a good relationship between the two families is built.”
After taking part in the lobola negotiations, the Imbewu: The Seed actor also went above and beyond what was demanded of him. He paid more cows than the 11 that his in-laws had asked for.Ezoic
“He was supposed to pay 11 cows, but he went beyond and paid extra cows. Mduduzi loves his woman, he can do anything for her. That’s why he made sure his in-laws did not complain when he went to pay lobola,” said another source.
When reached for comment, the seasoned actor confirmed that he had indeed paid lobola for his long-term girlfriend. However, he refused to disclose further details about the event or the identity of his girlfriend, saying that he needed to safeguard his privacy.
“This is a personal and family matter. It has nothing to do with my craft as an artist. So, as much as I confirm I paid lobola, I can’t give further details about it,” he said.Mduduzi Nombela, 45, has appeared in numerous television shows and series. He made his film debut as a young boy Menthi in Life in the City, directed by his high school teacher Bab’ Gumede.On Uzalo, he played Bomu Cetshwayo, Full Chicken in Bigly Yuge, and Phunyuka in Imbewu: The Seed.
Mduduzi has also performed in Mashu the Musical, Ten Days in Shebeen, House of Shaka, Burgvile Stories, and Lion King.
When Imbewu: The Seed was released, he was cast as Bab’ Kanyile or Phunyuka, the father of Ntombizethu (Zethu).
