Controversial media personality Ngizwe Mchunu has claimed that his former employer, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), owes him money.
The former Ukhozi FM presenter made the allegations during an interview with MacG and Sol Phenduka on their YouTube showWHY NGIZWE MCHUNU WAS FIRED
Mchunu was fired by the IsiZulu radio station in 2018 for allegedly breaching a confidentiality policy by sharing the station’s classified information, among others – SowetanLIVE reported at the time.
According to the publication, he was also found to have breached the station’s policy in 2017 when he announced on air that Ukhozi FM would broadcast live at Mroza Fakude’s victory party before it was approved.
NGIZWE MCHUNU CLAIMS THE SABC OWES HIM R400 000
However, Mchunu (who also presented a maskandi show called Roots on SABC1) denied the reports about his departure.
“They created a story that does not even make sense,” he said. When asked what those stories were, he refused to answer.
Mchunu went on to reiterate that the stories allegedly created by his former employer did not make sense.
“That is why when I got fire from the SABC, I won all the cases,.
“They then decided not to renew my contract. As you know, we [as radio presenter’s] were freelancers… they still owe me R400 000 at the SABC. I still have not received that money, that’s how cruel they are,” he said.
In addition, he name-dropped, saying former SABC board chairperson, Bongumusa Makhathini, knows that truth.
FEUD WITH ZIKALALA AND MALEMA
Mchunu has made headlines for many different controversial reasons since leaving Ukhozi FM. Some of the biggest include his feud with former KwaZulu-Natal premier Sihle Zikalala. He has also had beef with maskandi star, Khuzani Mpungose, and DJ Tira.
Most recently, he had a back and forth feud with Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema.
Their war-of-words started in November last year, during a press briefing, when Mchunu “barred” Malema from launching the EFF’s manifesto in KZN.
Following the media personality’s remarks, Malema hit back during the political party’s press conference in Durban on 5 January.
“They told me he is an artist or something. I don’t care what he thinks of me. He is the smallest boy ever. But even if I see him tomorrow, I will embrace him like any other African kid. I have no problem with him whatsoever.”
This was weeks after Mchunu lost his car sponsorship with JAC Motors following complaints by the EFF over what they referred to as “tribalist” comments.
Weeks later, the radio personality hosted yet another press conference, which was interrupted by three men dressed in EFF regilia. The three men, one of them identified as EFF spokesperson in KZN, Mazwi Blose.
