Danica De La Rey Jones is a South African actress, model, and director.She was born in the small city of Pietermaritzburg, Kwa Zulu Natal.
Her love of performance long stems from humble beginnings in her living room, with family and toys as her first audience. In her primary years, while navigating a huge family shift, she found the power of expression in the disruption and channeled deeper into performance.Her high school years saw her frontline every school play and cultural performance, thus earning her an honors for drama performance in 2007.In 2015, she was given the opportunity to grace the stage at the Playhouse Theatre Loft, embodying the character known as Naomi, an African healer. This performance would win her the Mercury Durban Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actress. It was on that stage that she was scouted for her first feature film.
She is best known for her performances in Mbongeni Ngema’s film adaptation of Asinamali, playing the role of Soweto, an MK soldier, as well as the independent feature film, Aya, which was filmed in 3 days and has graced many Film festivals and streaming platforms globally. She also made her first international debut, playing coach Paula in the Disney Film, Darby and the Dead.She has taken on the soapy world, with her most notable role being Tamryn on SABC 1’s Generations: The Legacy.She also starred on Durban Gen and currently, she is portraying Simone on etvScandal
