It seems as if the ongoing beef over the Song of The Year Competition on Ukhozi FM is far from over. Award-winning singer, Khuzani Mpungose has taken a swipe at another Maskandi sensation Mphile “Sminofu” Gumede after he made a mockery of him during the celebration of the milestone of Paris, a song sung by Mthandeni “Igcokama Elisha” Manqele.KwaZulu-Natal. Sminofu made fun of Khuzani during his performance where he asked his fans, “Why are not throwing cans at me? I don’t need votes to give you good music and to be recognised as one of the best maskandi artists.” This did not sit well with the Ijele hitmaker, who on Wednesday responded to his remarks and warned him not to start something he will never finish. Khuzani threatened Sminofu to stop making fun of what happened to him, where fans threw cans at him and booed him during a performance. He pleaded with him to stop making such remarks because they may lead to unnecessary deaths in the maskandi music genre.
THE WARNING
“I’m not the type of person who normally responds to artists or people who seem to show hatred towards me, but this time please allow me to advise and remind Sminofu about the history of the maskandi beef,” Khuzani said. “I have since been informed that Sminofu appeared in one event where he showed some excitement over Mthandeni’s behaviour during the Gumba Fest.” Khuzani further said that “During an event that was held in Curriesfountain in Durban, something similar happened to me where I was interrupted while I was on stage and that led to a huge fight between maskandi followers, which led to one person dying at that event after gunshots were fired. For some people, such events still hurt them. It doesn’t end well. I don’t wish to see my music fans interrupting other artists while they are performing, and I am pleading with them not to do it in the future,” he added.
NO VIOLENCE
Khuzani said he does not approve of violence. “I don’t condone violence and I never will. You cannot be rejoicing over such actions. I’m reprimanding you as a leader of the Blue Nation,” he said. “These are people’s lives that you are toying around with. You don’t make a mockery of someone’s misery because when you do that, some people become annoyed. I’m warning you.” When Sminofu was contacted for comment he said, “I’m not going to entertain Khuzani, he’s way older than me and he has my number – he can call me. He knows what he’s doing. He loves seeking public sympathy and loves playing victim all the time,” he said.
