A reliable source has revealed that a family member of the acclaimed Afro-pop musician Zahara suspects foul play from close relatives, suggesting that she may have been bewitched. The source alleges that someone in Zahara’s inner circle may have added muthi (traditional medicine) to her drink.
Reports indicate that Zahara, whose real name is Bulelwa Mkutukana, was set to marry her fiancé, Mpho Xaba, as a lobola delegation had been sent to her family. However, just two days after lobola was paid, Zahara was rushed to a private hospital in northern Johannesburg, where she was initially admitted to a medical ward.
Two weeks later, she was transferred to the ICU when doctors realised her condition was deteriorating. “What is surprising is that when Zahara celebrated her 36th birthday on November 9, she was as strong as an ox. She didn’t show of signs of being sick.” But now the Loliwe hitmaker is in a coma, fighting for her life. The source said.
Reflecting on the situation, the source suspects that someone may have interfered with Zahara’s plans to marry Xaba. They believe a relative may have become upset upon learning that the outstanding lobola amount was going to be paid. The source suggests that Zahara may have been poisoned or had muthi added to her drink.
“A relative must have gotten pissed off when they heard that the Xaba family were coming back to pay the outstanding amount of lobola. We suspect that Zahara was either poisoned or muthi was put into her drink ,” the concerned source says a relative of Zahara told her.
Another source mentions Xaba’s concern that some people may think he is interested in marrying Zahara for her wealth. However, the truth is that Xaba, an engineer who earns his own money, was introduced to Zahara by a mutual friend. The source empathizes with Xaba, highlighting that he included Zahara as a dependent on his medical aid, which has been crucial in her treatment.
Certain members of the Mkutukana family believe that Xaba’s proposal to marry Zahara was a lifeline for her, both personally and professionally. They express gratitude that Zahara found someone who treated her well despite her flaws. Currently, Xaba and Zahara’s mother are regular visitors at the hospital.
“Zahara has been unlucky in love with all her partners. We were happy to see that she finally found someone who treated her like a queen despite her flaws,” said the source.
Recently, Xaba had a disagreement with Zahara’s sisters, Lumka and Bandezwa, after allegedly overhearing them discussing life insurance policies against Zahara’s life. They were also accused of misusing Zahara’s bank cards during a shopping spree in downtown Johannesburg.
Security has been tightened at the ICU, with visitors undergoing scans. Xaba has instructed the hospital management not to grant access to Zahara’s ward without his approval. The family spokesperson, Oyama Dyosiba, declined to comment on the matter.
