Kelly Khumalo was not happy with the outcome of the SAMAs and she wasn’t afraid to turn homophobic in order to let it be known. On Saturday the 18th of November, the South African Music Awards honoured some of the biggest names in South African music for their achievements over the past year. The likes of Kabza De Small, Mörda and more big names were among the list of winners at the 29th SAMAs. However, one person who felt as if she deserved to win is Kelly Khumalo and she let the country know how she felt on a day-long rant on Sunday morning.
Kelly Khumalo mainly felt wronged that the award for Female Artist of the Year went to gospel singer, Ntokozo Mbambo. From the moment the award was handed to the gospel singer, Khumalo launched an angry rampage on social media which made it clear she disagreed with the decision. The Voice of Africa pop star accused the SAMAs of rigging the category and robbing her of the award. She continued her rant well into Sunday morning and when an unlucky fan tried to call her out, she hit back in scathing fashion. Khumalo resorted to homophobic remarks in order to try and put the fan in his place. After the fan claimed that she was wrong for her assertions, Kelly hit back and said, “Sit down, Aunty, the day you decide whether you’re a man or a woman then we can talk.
Many fans tried to call Kelly Khumalo to order but the singer refused to budge. In fact, many offended fans hit back by bringing up Khumalo’s involvement in the Senzo Meyiwa murder. One fan wrote, “Let it be known guys, Kelly Khumalo the suspect and witness in the killing of Senzo Meyiwa, is a homophobe rubbish.”
Another added, “Well, I love your music Kelly but I find this a little bit homophobic.” Despite being called out, Kelly has continued on her rampage.
