The life of a working mom is not glitzy, even for celebrity mom actor Zola Nombona who finds herself on and off set ever so often.
It has been a busy season for Nombona between her role as a Foschini ambassador and her upcoming TV work.
For working moms, the idea of a “work-life balance” is almost non-existent and hard to navigate. So, when there was an opportunity to be on set for a Foschini Mother’s Day shoot with her three-year-old Cebelihle, it made work special. Chatting with us during her travels in France for work, Zola said: “I always make sure that I make time for my son as I physically cannot survive without spending time with him. My son heals me and strengthens me.
“Simply holding him makes me so happy. He gives me a feeling I cannot even begin to describe. He is the petrol that I need to keep my engine running. The birth of her son fuelled her ambition.
The 31-year-old actor said her son and motherhood have become a source of strength, inspiration, courage, and bravery in work.
“Motherhood has been a great elevation in my life. A journey that has led me to see the power inside of me.
“It has been something that has nourished me not only my personal growth but also those around me because of the beautiful development and change and transformation that has happened within me.”To struggling moms, who are battling these feelings and having to keep up with the life balance, Zola said: “Our abilities are not the same, so we won’t do things the same way someone else does it”.
She added children were also not the same, so mothers, in their parenting styles, needed to be confident and open to learning more and asking questions. As innate as mothering may feel, it is okay not to know everything. The pressures of being a supermom are unhealthy.
“There is no right way to do it. Motherhood may be perceived as something innate, but it is a growing process for us because we do not know this little person [we are raising], and you [as a mom] are in the process of growing or always in a state of influx.”
