Doctor, Nandipha Magudumana’s lawyer Machini Motloung says his client is not feeling well – this follows the disgraced doctor fainting in police custody this morning, Wednesday 11 October.
DR NANDIPHA UNWELL AFTER ALLEGED FOOD POISONING, HER LAWYER SAYS
This morning, Dr Nandipha Magudumana’s lawyer, Machini Motloung confirmed that his client fainted and was kept in “appalling” conditions on the floor in the basement of the Park Road police station. He explained that he was refused direct access to his client which he found to be “unacceptable”. In an interview with Newzroom Afrika, the lawyer said that Magudumana was among a few inmates who were allegedly feeling under the weather.
“It’s not a question of hearing from somewhere else, I met the doctor, personally. [And] I was made to understand that she’s unwell. You know, it’s just not only her, apparently. A couple of inmates there [at Bizzah Makhate Correctional Centre in Kroonstad] since Monday, they have been not well apparently due to alleged food poisoning or something of that nature. It’s not just her,” Motloung said.Dr Nandipha Magudumana will not be making a physical appearance in court today. Instead, she is expected to join the court proceedings virtually. Before she fainted today, she was expected to share the dock with her boyfriend, convicted killer, and Facebook rapist Thabo Bester. This comes after she claimed she was taken to Tanzania against her will.
She faces several charges of defeating the ends of justice, fraud, corruption, abetting an inmate to escape from lawful custody, concealing an escaped offender, violating a corpse, aiding, and arson.
Meanwhile, three of her co-accused, the former G4S employees Nastassja Jansen, Thabang Matthews Mier, and Moeketsi April Ramolula have been let off the hook, SowetanLive reported.
“All the charges are then withdrawn against the three accused. You may stand down,” Magistrate Estelle de Lange was quoted as saying in court today.
Bester on the other hand has added a powerhouse of lawyers to his legal team to help him wiggle himself out of the hole, including Advocate Zandile Mshololo and Advocate Dali Mpofu .
