Malcolm Marx: Springboks star chills by the pool amid injury update

Springboks fans are sorely disappointed amid breaking news that player Malcolm Marx has officially been ruled out of the Rugby World Cup. But despite the loss to the national team, the star himself seems to be taking things easy.

According to Springboks coach Jacques Nienaber, Malcolm Marx sustained an injury during training in Toulon on Wednesday, 13 September.

Marx made his 64th Test appearance in the Springboks’s first Rugby World Cup game against Scotland last Sunday. But according to reports by the team, Malcolm will not play again in the tournament.

Nienaber said in a statement to SA Rugby: “First and foremost, we are extremely disappointed for Malcolm, and we wish him all the best in his recovery.

“He’s been working very hard to be in the best form possible for the tournament, and it’s tragic that his campaign has ended this way. As a team, we will remain in contact with him, as we do with all injured players”.

Malcolm Marx will be covered by fellow specialist hooker Bongi Mbonambi, who will be captioning the matchday squad on Sunday.

Fellow players Deon Fourie and Marco van Staden will also step into the position, should the need arise, added Nienaber.
