Just a day after the SABC found itself trending on social media for financial issues related to the Rugby World Cup, the state entity is in the news yet again.
Weekend newspapers claimed that the SABC had failed to meet it’s financial obligations in regards to broadcasting the Rugby World Cup.
The tournament gets underway in France on Friday evening and the defending champions South Africa will be up against Scotland on Sunday.
But the SABC will not be screening these matches due to financial disputes with the rights holders SuperSport.
The powers that be at SABC are now faced with yet another situation after it was revealed that it had suspended production due to money owed to it.
The suspension comes after the SABC 2 announced that 7de Laan tv series would come to an end in December this year. Since that announcement, the relationship between the soapie’s production company and the broadcaster seems to stand on shaky ground.
The production company released a statement testifying this.
