7de Laan actor David Rees has broken his silence for the first time since undergoing open heart surgery. And while he is thankful for all the support, he is still in dire need of financial help.
The veteran star – who was recently discharged from the Milpark Hospital – has received less than a fifth in donations towards his hefty bill.
Despite not having medical aid, David underwent the procedure at a private facility. His stay has raked up half a million in medical expenses.In a Facebook post, David Rees thanked the public for opening up their hearts and pockets, to help him in his time of need.
He shared: “To everyone who wished me well,l everyone who pledged support in some or another way, the doctors and staff at Milpark Hospital: You saved my life. I send you my deepest gratitude. Thank you”.
David Rees, widely known as an actor in 7de laan as Chris Welmann and Nic from Egoli, has issued heartfelt words of…David added to The South African: “It brought tears to my eyes listening as my sister read the voicemails to me in ICU. It helped with the hardest fight up ever fought. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
HOW MUCH DOES HE STILL NEED?
Earlier this month, David Rees’s family revealed that the actor’s bill currently stands at a whopping R500 000. To date, his fundraising efforts have only raised R88 000 – less than a fifth of the bill.
The soapie star was transferred to a private hospital after a government facility “misdiagnosed” him with having an ulcer.
While David is at home recovering, he still needs your help.

His Facebook post read: “The journey is still long, and support is needed. David’s fight is far from over. He is now at home recuperating. But there are still weeks of recovery and medical procedures ahead, and unfortunately, David does not have medical aid, making the journey even more daunting”.
