The attacks carried out in FARMS have caused people all over the world to talk.
And while the majority of people’s attention is being directed towards the assaults on white farmers, black farmers are speaking up to tell their tales. Mo Molemi, a former member of the rap group Motswako, is now one of those farmers. In February of 2022, his father, Gideon Morule, was similarly attacked on the property that the family owned in Mahikeng, North West.
Gideon, a farmer who was also the founder and president of the African Farmers Association of South Africa North West, passed away in December 2022 before the culprits could be apprehended by the police.
The rapper, whose real name is Motlapele Morule and who is 42 years old, recently discussed the incident with Daily Sun.
“It took place on the evening of Friday, the 18th of February 2022. The doors were still unlocked when Dad got there. Inside the residence, where he was by himself, six of his would-be attackers burst in. They took him down with a few tackles and then tied him up in the dining room.”
“They then proceeded to loot the house, which resulted in a loss of sixty thousand rand worth of property. While the crooks were busy searching in the bedrooms, he was able to free himself and escape. he ran out the back door and hid in the bushes a safe distance away from the house.”
Mo left the house on his own to search for the people responsible for the crime.
“I went from farm to farm until I found information that could be relied upon. As a result, I contacted the authorities and pointed them in the right path. My father passed away unexpectedly in December, and despite the fact that he seemed to be unaffected by the attack, he was plainly shaken by it.”
“However, I am not suggesting that he passed away as a result of the attack; however, he was traumatized,” he said.
According to research conducted by a security specialist named Laurence Palmer of LP Consulting, farm attacks are typically coordinated by persons who know the farmers, indicating that the farmers need to be watchful.
“Around 83 percent of attacks are carried out, according to a variety of sources, by assailants who are known to the victims who are attacked. “In this situation, the victim is at an even greater disadvantage, as the offender may have information about the victim that a stranger may not have,” he added.
According to the statistics compiled by AfriForum in 2022, there were 333 attacks on farms, and as a direct result, 50 people were killed.
If the rate of assaults and homicides for 2022 is computed, there were an average of 0.91 attacks each day. According to the statistics, if homicides are counted independently from attacks, there were an average of 0.96 homicides perpetrated on farms virtually every week.
Colonel Adele Myburgh, the spokeswoman for the North West SAPS, stated that a suspect was apprehended.
“It was the 15th of July that they made their initial appearance in court. Their most recent appearance in court occurred on July 17th. The prosecutor has not yet provided us with any instructions, so we must wait. “The case is still being tried in court, and proceedings are still ongoing,” she said.
