24 Years after divorcing Connie Ferguson

Chronology of the life of Neo Matsunyane, the first husband of Connie Ferguson.

Connie Ferguson was married to Shona Ferguson for close to twenty years before she passed away in 2021. They both worked in the South African film and television industries, and their union was widely reported because of their prominence. Because Shona and Connie have been in the public eye for so long, it is easy to overlook the fact that he is not her first husband. After being married for several years, Connie Ferguson and Neo Matsunyane eventually separated and eventually divorced.

Among the many roles he has played, Neo Matsunyane is also recognized for hosting television shows, providing voiceovers, and helming films. Through the course of his lengthy career in show business, he has appeared in numerous films, including Red Scorpion (1988) and 7de Laan (2000). Although being best known as Shona Ferguson’s ex-husband, Neo has accomplished a great deal in his work and personal life.

The seasoned performer was born on January 17, 1967, in Johannesburg, although little is known about his early life. His parents’ identities remain secret, but his impressive school performance suggests they placed a high importance on learning at home. In 1983, Neo completed high school at Kebalepile High School in Mafikeng and received his diploma. He finally decided on a career path and went to The School of Broadcasting, from which he graduated with a diploma in 1991. The SABC and Bateleur sponsored Neo’s filmmaking education between 1994 and 1995. His then-mentor, Mr. John Rogers, helped him get more experience in the performing arts field and build a stronger resume.

To better prepare himself for a career in the entertainment industry, Neo enrolled in a script analysis class at Pretoria Technikon and a class at the Hollywood Film School taught by Dov Simens.

After finishing college, he dove headfirst into the film and television industry, landing roles in a wide variety of productions.

In 1998, because to his role in Kelebone, Neo became a household name. After Class of ’92, he appeared in Generations, On the Right Track, Grondbaronne, and Maitemogelo, mostly in little parts. The two started dating in the early 1990s, when Neo Matsunyane was just a teenager and Connie Ferguson was known as Masilo. It’s likely that they met sometime during their acting careers, but we don’t know when or how it happened.

The two artists tied the knot in 1993, and after a period of relative harmony, they suddenly chose to split up for unknown reasons. After more than five years of marriage, Connie and Neo split up in 1998.

After being apart for a while, Connie finally tied the knot with Shona Ferguson in 2001. As a result of Shona’s untimely demise in 2021, the marriage eventually broke up. Yet, Neo has not been spotted in a relationship since he split up with Connie. Being a father and grandfather keeps him just as busy as his booming job. Lesedi is the daughter he had with Connie Ferguson; Momo is the daughter he had from a previous relationship.

Both of the daughters have followed in their father’s footsteps by working in show business.
