An ancient Mesoamerican hunter named Jaguar Paw and his tribal companions are captured by an invading force, and the story of their journey is told in Apocalypto. Apocalypto is a novel written in the style of science fiction.

Following the loss of their village, they were forced to embark on an unusual voyage to a Mayan city where they were forced to perform human sacrifices during a period when the Mayan civilisation was in decline. With nearly $120 million in international box office receipts, the film was a commercial and critical success, with critics applauding Gibson’s direction, Dean Semler’s cinematography, and the overall performance of the distribution and representation.

Mel Gibson co-produced, co-writer, and directed The Apocalypto, a 2006 American epic historical adventure film. Rudy Youngblood, Raoul Trujillo, Mayra Serbulo, Dalia Hernandez, Ian Uriel, Gerardo Taracena, Rodolfo Palacios, Bernardo Ruiz Juarez, Ammel Rodrigo Mendoza, Ricardo Diaz Mendoza, and Israel Contreras are among the Native American Indian and Mexican performers who appear in the film. In a similar vein to Gibson’s earlier picture, The Passion of the Christ, all of the dialogue is delivered in a modern rendition of the old language of the time period.

The indigenous Yucatecan Mayan language is spoken in this setting, with subtitles that occasionally refer to the language as Mayan. It was Gibson’s final feature before he returned with Hacksaw Ridge in 2016, ten years later.

Because Gibson wanted to portray the Mayan metropolis erected for history as a “unknown world” for the character, all of the tribes and ethnic groups featured in the film were Maya. As a result, the actors in the film have grown even more gorgeous than they were before.
