Here are 6 reasons to tune in:

6. It shows Durban like viewers have never seen it before

Reyka season one showcased the city’s sweeping cane fields. Season two takes place against its harbour and other notable landmarks, including uShaka Marine World.

The series made use of extensive VFX to accurately recreate the ships in Durban harbour, with some scenes filmed in the Port Natal Maritime Museum. Others were recreated using CGI.

One scene originally had Reyka confronting a crocodile in the script, but when production came across a seal that could act on demand, it was decided she would encounter this talented marine mammal instead.

5. It’s made by two powerhouse directors

Catherine Cooke and Rea Rangaka are at the helm again for the second season.

Cooke’s portfolio includes The Girl from St. Agnes and iNumber Number. The winner of multiple film awards, her directing style is eclectic and flexible, with a penchant for dynamic collaborative projects. She has a talent for fast-paced action and dark drama, balancing commercial appeal with critical acclaim.

Rangaka has established himself as an actor, writer, and director in both local and international film and television. His work on The Republic and iNumber Number garnered him several awards and his oeuvre showcases a unique blend of creativity, social awareness, and a passion for storytelling.

4. Dynamic new characters

Season 2 introduces a host of new faces, including Samkelo Ndlovu (Adulting) playing Detective Ayanda Jali, who becomes Reyka’s friend and confidant. This season also features Pallance Dladla (DAM) as Zee, a social justice vlogger and internet personality, and other new faces like Frank Rautenbach (Summertide), Lemogang Tsipa (Shaka Ilembe), and Sello Maake KaNcube (Pulse of the Nation).

3. A profound look into Reyka Gama

The season delves deeper into Reyka’s past and her ongoing struggle with the trauma of her kidnapping by Angus Speelman, her childhood abductor, portrayed by acclaimed British actor Iain Glen. Fans of Reyka are in for another intense ride with this haunted but resilient protagonist.

2. Global appeal

Reyka is world-class entertainment that’s been acknowledged globally. Not only was it nominated for two International Emmys, but it opened the 60th Monte-Carlo Television Festival and has been sold in over 148 territories around the world.

1.The characters are thoroughly researched

Head writer Rohan Dickinson, who’s been nominated for an International Emmy Award, did several sessions with a psychologist to fine-tune the authenticity of the show’s characters.

“Every month we would get bills for therapy – which was the time they blocked off to discuss the characters and how and why they behave it a certain way,” says Dickinson. “This deep understanding of their psychological makeup is a hallmark of Reyka, and we are sure it contributes to its veracity and depth.”

Dickinson holds a PhD in Creative Writing and also created, wrote and produced M-Net’s Desert Rose.

Plunge into Durban’s depths on 11 January 2024 on M-Net (DStv channel 101), at 20:00. Reyka will also live-stream on DStv Stream.

Cyan Boujee buys a new car after being called broke by her ex-manager.

Socialite Cyan Boujee is embroiled in huge drama with her ex manager Lerato Malete, who accuses her of assault, among other things. / Instagram
Wellington Lerato Malete, the former manager of Cyan Boujee – says many are tired of her and claims she is a bully.

Speaking to Sunday World, Malete expressed disappointment at the socialite, real name Honour Zuma. He is being accused by Cyan of allegedly swindling her out of money and various other things. Malete has denied all claims.

Assault claims against Cyan
Over the weekend, Malete shared a photo of himself seemingly covering an eye injury. Cyan has denied that she assaulted the 49-year-old.

Taking to her social media stories on Tuesday morning, she told her side of the story. She claimed that Malete forced her to be with older men. Cyan also said Malete was lying through his teeth for saying she was broke.

Malete said the two started working together in June last year and their relationship was strictly business. The two had their first fall-out two weeks after they started working together when Cyan failed to pitch up for gigs. They separated and blocked each other but two weeks later they met and reconciled.Difficult client/manager relationship
“At first I was never on the road with them. I would only go to gigs when it was necessary. But most of the time she was pushing it and I did not want to be on the road. I was trying to avoid something like this. I have always said to her that I am not her home manager but just a manager,” said Malete.

With Cyan trending every other week, Malete said he was the one who had to deal with those issues. This then led to her getting a lot of bookings.

Money issues around bookings
“After her sex tape with Prince Kaybee that’s when things started to get busy. I felt like I was working for someone like Kabza De Small. So, we were making good money and all the money would be transferred to my account. However, there were some bookings which she has relations with that went straight to hers. I would send proof of payment all the time.”

After their first fall-out, Malete said he then started going to gigs with her, going to her house and chilling for almost an hour waiting for her. All for the sake of her brand.

“In December she asked for my six-month bank statement because she was trying to buy a car. She then gave me an attitude after I refused to give her the documents. She then missed a few gigs since September in December.

“There was a point where she broke up with some baller guy she met in Nelspruit who later dumped her. She cancelled all her gigs for that weekend – and she was fully booked.”

No-show at scheduled gigs
Malete says when it was December everything was piling up, and Cyan does not like to do refunds. She always wants to negotiate new dates, so he needs to be with her on the road to avoid dealing with refunds.

“Her last gig was on the 31st and I left them in Centurion. I went straight to my place, changed, and headed straight to the airport. She then followed me to Cape Town. She was not booked or even part of me and my friend’s plans.

“I got there on Monday and she arrived on Tuesday. She missed two of her flights and was crying hysterically. Because she is blonde and does not know how to do things for herself.”

Malete had planned to go back to Joburg on Wednesday but Cyan convinced him, so they booked another night for R5,000. He then started getting worried after seeing that she was calling people for money and was cautious with her spending.

“After seeing that she was panicking, I booked my flight for Saturday and left her with some of my friends. I managed to get her two gigs in Khayelitsha and she did not go to those gigs at all. I asked her and she said she couldn’t manage herself. She didn’t even have money to book a flight back because she missed a flight.”

Nelspruit assault incident
Fast forward to the past weekend in Nelspruit where the incident allegedly happened. She was booked and was in a foul mood that night. He said on Thursday he had told her he would use the money she was booked for to refund the people in Cape Town.

“Nelspruit was only giving her R10,000 and she claimed she had a good relationship with them. She said they even give her guys who will give her R50,000 a night.

“On Saturday morning she asked me about a payment for South Korea, which was only next month and another gig. I told her I still had the South Korea payment but the other gig I had used to refund the people from Cape Town.”

She then instructed him to send all the payments straight to her account. She said she did not want any of her money randomly in Malete’s account.

“Cyan then demanded all her money and when they were buying food she sat on the pavement waiting for me.

“She then said I have been chowing her money and she has been quietly observing, and I reacted. While we were busy exchanging words she hit me with an object. Because I am a man, I couldn’t do anything. They stopped us and she tried to bite me on my hand. I told her she must not come with [sh*t] and I left with my car back to Joburg.”

Denies allegations made by Cyan
Malete was previously the manager of DJ Lamiez Holworthy, whom Cyan is referring to on her Instagram stories. He denies all the allegations made by Cyan against him. The former manager feels that Cyan is trying to buy the case. This after receiving strange phone calls on Monday.

Previously, Cyan was accused of assaulting young social media influencer Paballo Noko. She was also arrested for stealing an iPhone 13. Police arrested after her set at a Midrand venue. However, the matter was withdrawn at the Midrand magistrate’s court due to lack of evidence.

It has become one of the most sought-after careers all over the world and all it takes is a phone, a ring light and appealing, unique content. Within months, you can go from 12 followers to millions, and with that, start making money from your social media.

Whether it is on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or TikTok, there is money to be made as an influencer.

One of the people who’s found this out is Sima Mangolwane (21), a South African TikToker who has not only found a niche online but who made a career out of content creation.

With over 1 million followers on Tiktok, she’s built a strong fan base, all from her gift of making people laugh.

Sima was recently trending after her YouTuber, rapper boyfriend Ghost Hlubi, real name Khanya Hlubi, revealed on his page that he bought her a brand-new Mercedes Benz.

She tells us how she got into the business of content.

When she first started in 2020, she wanted to make videos for fun and two years later she has found a way collaborate with big brands and monetise her craft.

The social media star is doing her third year in Public Management at Varsity College and she’s a popular TikToker.

“I didn’t think content creation would a profession, I started making TikTok videos and they started booming and eventually my brand grew, and I started getting approached by brands that wanted to work with me. Making money was never the initial plan but I see that I can make a living out of it.”

The young content creator says that she is amazed at where her content has taken her. She recently attended the SAMA’s and she says that she can’t believe that this is her life.

“I am still in shook at where I am in life, I’ve always known that at some point I would be a public figure, but I thought it would be through Instagram. I am grateful for the opportunities I have received and the ones that are to come.”

She believes that there are many possibilities for the youth outside of traditional careers and she encourages people to explore their talents.“I know parents don’t want their kids on social media. My parents were also not really into me being active on social media. I believe that if we show our parents what we would do and how much we’re making, they would be more supportive.”

Being a TikToker comes with its fair share of online hate and having to constantly read the negative things people say about her and her relationship gets to her at times, Sima says. But she’s found a better way to deal with the negative noise and that is to turn it into content so that followers can laugh.
