Christopher Moagi, an experienced journalist, passed away, and the South African media sector is in sorrow. The gifted writer, who had battled liver cancer, passed away on Christmas Eve after a brief illness at the age of 31.

The multi-media journalist who worked for Daily Sun has been remembered by the South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF). In a statement issued on December 26th, SANEF stated that Moagi was a gifted writer who was also skilled at taking pictures and films.

The media community has been shocked by Moagi’s unexpected death.

The editor of Daily Sun, Amos Mananyetso, stated: “I began appreciating Matome’s work long before I even joined Daily Sun. He was one of the few young and talented photojournalists of his time, and I could tell that by the way, he covered his stories.

“His energy and work ethic astounded me when I first started working with him in December 2019. Moagi was intrigued by all kinds of stories. He could effortlessly go from a tragic cabin fire to court reporting and a public outcry. His video and photographic output were of a higher caliber,” said Mananyetso.

The robbery of worshippers at the Seventh Day Adventist church in the heart of Johannesburg and the murder trial of Prince Lethukuthula Zulu were among Moagi’s last reports.

Chris collaborated closely with Nahima Ahmed, a former Daily Sun news editor, who described him as “a bright and very moral photojournalist.

” He and I were coworkers for ten years. He was relatively young when he joined Daily Sun, but he had a good sense of news. Matome never wore a scowl; he was always upbeat, an all-arounder, and prepared for the next task at whatever time of day or night. He was one of the few journalists with whom I had the pleasure of working who was enthusiastic and dedicated to the People’s Paper.”Nahima said.

“He, his wife, and his family have not had it easy over the past several weeks, but he has endured by keeping his head high, holding onto hope, and smiling when he could. The genuine definition of a journalist was given by Matome. I say goodbye to a bright star who had a lot to give the media sector, with profound grief. Indeed, gone too soon, Nahima added.

Moagi has also received praise from the African National Congress (ANC), who described his departure as a significant loss for the media sector.

On December 31, he will be laid to rest. The funeral service will begin at 7 a.m. at the Fleurhof Community Center.

As part of his caption, “Yellowman” as he is affectionately known as penned a cute message to his sweetheart where he wrote, “I pray that God continues to bless our journey together. Happy 18th anniversary babe. Yes we are not perfect, we do have our moments, misunderstanding, arguments and fights too”.

In addition, the former Mamelodi Sundowns jersey number 3 wrote, “The beauty about it, we always find a way back to each other’s hands, strong and loving too. Looking forward to the next 18 years of arguments and fights, love you @maruzaruth. Almost important I respect you. When you marry your crush. When you marry your childhood lover. In one of the images she included a picture of the character of Madliphuthu, and in the other, she posted a picture of what Vuyo supposedly looks like today. In the second picture, the man she posted looks very different from the Vuyo Mgudlwa that we all know from back then, the man in the picture looks way bigger and way more muscular than we remember Vuyo to be.
