Springboks Physio: The key to keeping the players upbeat

Springboks physio, Rene Naylor has just returned from her second Rugby World Cup, and both times she’s been victorious. She reflects on what it’s like to spend that type of time with a team that’s primed to win.

If there’s a list of enviable jobs across South Africa, working and travelling with the Springboks has to be up there. For Rene Naylor, that’s just everyday life as she takes the health and physical safety of the nation’s rugby team under her care. While the players are embarking on their nationwide trophy tour, Naylor has taken a moment to share some insights from her work.

SPRINGBOKS PHYSIO: ‘OUR BOYS HAVE BEEN RESPONSIBLE’
While most fans are happy to see their favourite players giving it their all, even when hurt, for physios, it’s a completely different stress! After spending 20 weeks with the Springboks, Naylor can now breathe a sigh of relief that they made it out without too many major injuries. Speaking on 702 on Friday, 3 November 2023, Naylor explained that although her time with the team was stressful (she was sweating over every injury scare!) the players took great care of themselves.

Speaking to Lester Kiewit on the station she said, “our boys have been responsible in their recovery prior to this week and have worked non-stop and long hours to make it through as champs.”

FAMILY WAS KEY FOR BOKS’ VICTORY
Beyond the overall fitness of the team (which shone in all the key moments), Naylor also believes that having family members close to each player made a tremendous difference in their physical and mental performance.

She added in her interview, “Having family has been crucial. It’s made such a big difference and we are so lucky that the coaching staff has agreed to this. A special thank you to the players’ wives and girlfriends and kids who’ve had to make huge adaptations in their lives to accommodate their partners during this time.”

‘Cancelled him before Jub Jub’: ‘Sizok’thola’ viewers slam Moja Love

Viewers of the Moja Love drug-busting show, Sizok’thola, have criticised the channel for terminating its relationship with the show’s presenter, Xolani Khumalo.

MOJA LOVE DUMPS XOLANI KHUMALO
On Friday, 3 November, the DStv channel said it had parted ways with Khumalo, although not stating why.

“Moja Love TV Channels has terminated its relationship with Mr Xolani Khumalo, presenter of one of the Channel’s leading shows, Sizok’thola. The channel will not be commenting on any matters relating to Mr Khumalo at this stage,” the statement reads.Khumalo is facing murder charges following the death of alleged drug dealer, Robert “Kicks” Varrie, who was the subject of a drug bust in Katlehong on 19 July.

According to his family, Varrie died after he was interrogated and assaulted by Khumalo and crew.

In September, Khumalo handed himself over to the Katlehong North Police Station where he was charged with murder and later granted R20 000 bail.

On 19 October, he made his second appearance at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court where the matter was postponed to 21 November pending the Director of Public Prosecution’s decision on whether it should be transfered to a High Court for trial, EWN reported at the time.ANGRY ‘SIZOK’THOLA’ VIEWERS LAMBASTE CHANNEL
Moja Love has been slammed for its decision to cut ties with Khumalo. The channel was criticised further for sustaining its various relationships with other presenters i.e Jub Jub, Bishop Israel Makamu and Siyacela Dlamuka.JUB JUB, BISHOP MAKAMU AND SIYACELA DLAMUKA
Jub Jub, who hosts Moja Love’s most-watched show Uyajola 9/9, is currently in and out of court on 13 counts ranging from multiple counts of rape, indecent assault, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and several counts of kidnapping. The charges were brought forward by his cousin and three of his ex-girlfriends, Masechaba Khumalo, Kelly Khumalo and Amanda du-Pont. He is expected back in court on 8 November.

In 2010, the Ndikhokhele rapper caused a car crash which claimed the lives of four children and left two brain damaged. He was sentenced to 25 years behind bars in 2012 and released on parole in January 2017.

Makamu, the founder of Endless Hope Bible Church in Alberton and host of Rea Tsotella, was arrested in May 2021 after a former employee of his church laid a complaint of sexual assault. IOL reported in August that year that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) withdrew the charges.

In January this year, Moja Love came under fire following the airing of an episode about a gender-based violence (GBV) incident on reality series Isencane Lengane wherein the show’s star Thando accused her husband Siyacela Dlamuka of assault. At the time, the channel has since released a statement saying it “does not condone or support GBV”.

Harry, Meghan ‘fuming’ over William, Kate’s A-list connections

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly “fuming” over Prince William and Kate Middleton’s star-studded connections in the US as reportedly by Closer Magazine.

The Sussexes are reportedly not too happy that the Prince William and Kate Middleton have their own friendships with several A-listers.

“You’d be surprised how many big stars reached out to William and Kate to let them know they have their support amid this feud with Harry and Meghan,” a source told Closer magazine.

“They may have moved to California, but it’s William and Kate who had the most support out there, and there is a certain level of smugness about that,” the source continued.

“They insist that they’d be doing this regardless of where the Sussexes live, but there is no doubt they’ll enjoy showing Meghan and Harry how Hollywood is still very much obsessed with all things royal,” the source added. This comes after a royal expert claimed that the Prince and Princess of Wales have reportedly “closed their minds” to the possibility that their rift with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can be fixed.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jeannie Bond said that it was clear that Kate was “hurt and insulted by things that Harry and Meghan have said.” She claimed that Prince William and Kate attempted to heal the rift in the royal family at his father – Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021 but it became “impossible”.

“There comes a point when you just have to accept that happy families are not a game that everyone can play,” said Bond to OK! Magazine.

“Catherine has been hurt and insulted by things that Harry and Meghan have said, but she and William are a very strong team, and I suspect that, together, they’ve come to the conclusion that the rift with Harry cannot be fixed in the foreseeable future,” Bond continued.

‘Leave me out of this feminist nonsense’: Candace Owens criticizes feminists

Candace Owens is no stranger to controversy, particularly around the feminist movement. The video in question sees Owens who is heavily pregnant, talking about how she doesn’t want to participate in the feminist movement. She also goes on to bash feminists noting that she doesn’t want to work a 9-5 job and in turn criticises women who choose to do it all.

“You want to be like a man. You can do bad all by yourself. You don’t need a man. Let’s work a 9-5. What? I don’t want to work. I wasn’t to stay at home, cook barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. I’m cool with that! I like to bake. Leave me out of this feminist nonsense!”, Candace said.

She continues: “So now women are told; ‘they can do it all’. And so, guess what happens ladies? You’re going to have to do it all! You’re still the person that’s going to have the kids, only one of you is going to produce the milk that these babies need, getting maternity leave to sprint back to work”.

TWEEPS REACT TO CANDACE OWENS
Many tweeps are not impressed by Candace’s take on feminism. Many have even called out the irony in her statements especially considering that she herself works and has multiple businesses that requires her to work.

“I’m annoyed but I’ll bite: Feminism is the reason why she actually has a choice to be barefoot and pregnant. Without feminism, she would not have the platform or opportunity to talk such nonsense”, one user shared.

Another user commented: “Feminists are insane. I don’t want a 9 to 5. I want to stay home and cook barefoot pregnant in the kitchen” – A pregnant woman who works a 9 to 5 and is currently working in this video who is openly able to voice her opinion on a stage this large because of the work of the womanist”.
