The body of award-winning singer Bulelwa “Zahara” Mkuthukana arrived in her hometown East London on Sunday after she died on December 11, weeks after being hospitalised.

Actress Lusanda Mbane, who drove from Johannesburg to Phumlani to pay her respects after the family received Zahara’s remains, delivered the singer’s accolades and guitar.peaking to Lusanda recalled the emotional “longest number of weeks” of her life as she relied on people around her to give her reports and updates when Zahara was hospitalised.

 

 

 

“When she went into hospital I was in communication with everyone around her. It was a very unsettling, very emotional time because I did not know what to expect,” she said.

Since meeting Zahara through a two-hour interview when she was a presenter on TruFM, Lusanda said they formed a sisterhood.

“My journey was that of a big sister and that was the relationship.

“I was there for her when she needed me as a big sister, and I was there when we had fun as well but that didn’t always end well because the big sister in me would always come out and Bulelwa was very stubborn.”

While the narrative on socials has been about how Zahara’s friends failed her, Lusanda said she had witnessed people in the singer’s life who would “say yes to everything” she said but she was always the one who would call her to order.

“She knew she had to have limits. She knew if I was around she had to have limits with how she spoke and conducted herself and she would give me that respect as a big sister. If she found herself in any corner, she would call me and I would be there for her.

“It wouldn’t matter if we fought the previous day, we discussed everything. There were no boundaries. She loved me so much that she almost wanted to give me her all.

“The light moments were when we would sit on her patio and talk about life. She would cook lunch and supper for me, and she would sing for me.”

Throughout her career Zahara made controversial headlines, from being on the verge of losing her Roodepoort home to her long dispute over royalties and social media users speculating she performed under the influence.Lusanda said she was not oblivious to the hardships Zahara faced as the singer would often call her late at night to talk about her woes.

“Bulelwa was a troubled soul. I sometimes allocated that to the fact that she was a bright shining star. Unfortunately when you are a bright shining star, everything about you is going to be loud.

“I was aware of the extent of her troubles. I was guiding and sometimes a friend to her. I understood the extent of the problems … I thought we could help as much as we could, but when God has picked her as the star who would shine brighter than most others, that is the price to pay. I thought maybe that is the explanation.”

Lusanda said she will forever cherish the moments she spent with Zahara and keep her legacy alive.

“Bulelwa, I loved you when you were alive and I will always love you. The things that were important to you will continue to be important to me.”

AZimbabwean-born prophet – who claims he predicted Zahara, AKA, and Costa Titch’s 2023 deaths – has issued a sombre warning about gqom singer Babes Wodumo.

Obey Tichafa Mukanhairi, who also uses the name Mellontik Orasi, shared the message of doom on his popular Facebook page.Hours after the announcement of Zahara’s untimely passing, Mellontik Orasi claimed her “warned” her of his prophecies.

In a video message, the man known as the “prophet of doom” claimed he personally contacted the singer to issue the warning.

 

 

He said: “The problem is, people are filled with doubt. I spoke to Zahara and told her she could preserve her own life.”

Orasi claimed the 36-year-old entertainer told him to “leave me alone.”Earlier this year, Orasi – who heads up the Mellontik Orasi Ministries in Randburg – claimed he predicted Costa Titch’s death just over a week before his death.Mellontik added that Costa followed in the footsteps of his friend AKA, whom he claimed repeatedly “ignored” his premonitions.

According to Orasi, he has also predicted the deaths of fellow celebs Riky Rick, Shona Ferguson, Jamie Bartlett, and many others.

A day after Zahara’s death, the prophet shared another Facebook post aimed at a celebrity.

He shared: “Very gloomy cloud over Babes [Wodumo]. Prayer can preserve life”.

Earlier this year, Orasi warned Babes’ friends to “check on her” amid health concerns.

He shared: “Pray for Babes Wodumo. Substance abuse from this lady that may cause a health scare”.

Born Mpume , Nyamane is known for playing roles such as the sassy Buhle on e.tv’s Scandal!, the cutthroat Natasha on the comedy film Blessers and Amogelang on Rhythm City. People always ask whether my real name is ‘Six’ and I always say ‘Yes’ because I tend to believe it is. I got that name from my days of playing provincial hockey and I played position six. With the team being so big, the coaches don’t have time to learn our names, so they refer us to the numbers on the pitch,” the actor explains.

“Even off the pitch, we as a team as well as the coaches, used to call each other by our numbers… and somehow we just kept our names and I kept mine despite pursuing an acting career.

“I started playing hockey in grade 4 up to matric. I stopped playing after moving to Johannesburg because I couldn’t find a team and besides, I truly don’t have the time – so I wouldn’t be able to keep up with practice, let alone the games.”

The 25-year-old mother to a three-year-old hails from Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal. She stumbled upon her love for acting in her first year at the University of SA (Unisa), and despite her love for her craft her mother was not quite fond of the idea that she was pursuing an acting career over academics.

“I lived in Newcastle all my life and when I finished matric, I knew I had to come to the big city to pursue some sort of career. I had no plan when I arrived in the City of Gold because my family shut down the idea of me studying sports science or playing hockey professionally, all I knew is that I had to go to school,” she remarked.“I remember looking around for schools but ended up in the same Unisa I initially didn’t want to study at. I studied finance for a couple of months but found myself uninterested in the course, so I started ditching classes for auditions – this is after a guy I met at the gym told me I had a face for television.

“I went to my very first audition and I got the role. I then chose to secretly shoot the film without my family knowing but somehow the school called my mother to inform her that I didn’t attend school or write my exam… to say my mother was furious with me is an understatement, she didn’t talk to me for two weeks.”

Nyamane continued honing her acting skills despite her mother’s wishes. She landed numerous roles and after her mother witnessed how passionate her daughter was about her craft, she eventually gave in.

Nyamane first made her debut on the popular soapie late in December and while she was enthusiastic about playing her new role, embodying Nozipho seemed challenging and a bit complicated because her character is the daughter of Nkosiyabo Cele (played by Muzi Mthabela), who is a fearless journalist who sniffs out and exposes important stories, no matter the danger.

“I was a ball of nerves on my first day on set… it was a different environment with new actors that I didn’t know very well. Another thing I was worried about was the fact that I am going to play Nozipho for a very long time, so it was important for me to introduce her to the audience very well,” she adds.
